Quick Info
In 1990, shortly after the fall of communism, the Bulgarian military launched a secretive excavation near the small village of Tsarichina. Officially searching for medieval treasure, the project was heavily influenced by psychics who claimed contact with an ancient or extraterrestrial entity. Over two years they dug a deep shaft and a long tunnel, reporting UFOs, strange energy fields, and direct communication with a being called Amonia. The operation ended abruptly in 1992, the hole was filled with concrete, and the site was sealed.
What started as a treasure hunt quickly turned into one of the strangest government-linked paranormal events in Eastern Europe, blending psychic claims, military secrecy, and alleged contact with non-human intelligence.
Post-Communist Bulgaria and the Tsarichina Site
After the collapse of the communist regime in 1989, Bulgaria was in turmoil. The economy was collapsing, institutions were unstable, and people were searching for hope and hidden truths. In this atmosphere, a group of psychics approached the military with a remarkable claim: beneath a hill near the village of Tsarichina lay something of immense importance, possibly ancient treasure or knowledge left by advanced beings.
Operation Sunray Begins
In early 1990 the Bulgarian Army launched “Operation Sunray.” Soldiers and engineers began digging a vertical shaft under the guidance of psychics, especially Elisaveta Loginova. The psychics claimed they were in contact with an entity they called Amonia (sometimes referred to as Kiki), who was directing the excavation and warning of dangers.
“The entity told us exactly where to dig. It said we were approaching something very old and very important.”
— Elisaveta Loginova, lead psychic
The digging continued for over two years, reaching more than 70 meters deep with a 160-meter horizontal tunnel. Soldiers reported strange phenomena from the very beginning.
Strange Events During the Dig
Workers described intense electromagnetic interference, compasses spinning wildly, radios failing, and equipment malfunctioning. Many felt an oppressive energy or heard unexplained whispers and footsteps. Some reported seeing shadowy figures or glowing orbs near the site at night. UFO sightings were reported in the sky above Tsarichina during the excavation period. Several soldiers allegedly experienced health issues, nightmares, and psychological disturbances.
“The deeper we went, the heavier the air felt. Some men heard voices calling their names when no one was there.”
— Anonymous soldier involved in the dig
The psychics claimed the entity Amonia was both guiding and warning them, saying they were approaching a sealed chamber containing ancient knowledge or technology.
What They Allegedly Found
According to the soldiers, engineers, and psychics involved, the deeper they dug, the more unusual the findings became. They reportedly discovered smooth, artificially constructed tunnels that appeared to be made of a material unlike natural rock. On the walls were strange hieroglyph-like markings and symbols that no one could identify. Some team members described encountering a large, perfectly flat slab or metallic door that seemed to seal off a deeper chamber.
Psychics claimed the entity Amonia warned them repeatedly not to open the final barrier, saying it protected knowledge or technology that humanity was not yet ready for. One of the most intriguing objects allegedly recovered was a concave, lens-shaped artifact that emitted unusual energy readings. Some witnesses described feeling intense pressure or hearing low-frequency sounds as they approached certain sections of the tunnel.
“The walls were too smooth, too perfect. It didn’t look like anything dug by human hands. And the symbols… they weren’t Bulgarian, they weren’t ancient Greek, they were something else.”
— Anonymous participant in the Tsarichina dig
The psychics maintained that they were communicating with an ancient guardian or extraterrestrial intelligence that had been watching over the site for thousands of years. As the team got closer to what they believed was the main chamber, the warnings from the entity grew stronger, and the strange phenomena around the site intensified.
The Sudden Shutdown
In November 1992, with no official explanation, the military abruptly halted the project. The shaft and tunnel were filled with concrete, the site was sealed, and all documentation was reportedly classified or destroyed. The official reason given was lack of funding, but many involved believed higher authorities ordered the closure after the team got too close to something they were not meant to discover.
Timeline of Operation Sunray
- Early 1990 – Bulgarian military launches Operation Sunray near Tsarichina guided by psychics.
- 1990–1992 – Deep shaft and long tunnel are excavated; strange phenomena and entity communications reported.
- November 1992 – Project is suddenly shut down and the site is sealed with concrete.
- 1990s–2000s – Stories leak through participants and psychics; the legend of the Tsarichina Entity grows.
- Today – The site remains sealed, and the full truth of what was found (or avoided) is still unknown.
Why the Tsarichina Entity Still Fascinates Us
The Tsarichina story combines government secrecy, psychic contact, underground anomalies, and alleged extraterrestrial or ancient intelligence in a way that feels both ancient and modern. Whether it was a genuine encounter with something otherworldly, a psychological phenomenon amplified by post-communist uncertainty, or a mix of both, it remains one of the most intriguing and atmospheric underground mysteries in Eastern European UFO lore. The concrete seal still covering the site only adds to the enduring question: what were they really digging for, and what did they find?

What Do You Think?
After reading, and watching the video above, what is your gut reaction to the story of the Tsarichina dig and the alleged entity contact? Do you think the psychics were genuinely communicating with something non-human, something ancient, or was it a mix of suggestion and post-communist chaos at play here? Why do you think the project was shut down so suddenly? This event remains one of Eastern Europe’s most atmospheric underground mysteries, and whether it's true or not, and in my opinion it's a great story to hear. Let me know your thoughts on it.
