Quick Info
Back in 2011, a short video dropped online that made the entire UFO community lose their minds, and perhaps rightly so. It showed what looked like a real Grey alien, short, skinny, huge black eyes, just sitting there being questioned. People started calling him “Skinny Bob,” and he’s been haunting discussions ever since.
The clip is only a few minutes long, but it feels different from almost every other alien video out there. The movements are subtle and natural, the eyes have that wet reflective look, and the whole thing has this eerie calmness that’s hard to shake.
How the Video First Appeared
It showed up on YouTube one day in early 2011 with very little explanation. The uploader, Ivan0135, claimed the footage came from a former KGB insider who had smuggled out classified Soviet material. According to the story, this was just one small piece from a much larger collection of alien contact films spanning decades.
What You Actually See in the Footage
Skinny Bob is sitting in what looks like a plain room, probably during some kind of interview or debriefing. He’s looks incredibly thin with long arms and that classic oversized head and large black eyes. His skin has a greyish tone with visible texture, almost like it’s slightly moist.
“He just… looks too real.”
That’s the reaction you hear from pretty much everyone who watches it for the first time.
He blinks slowly, turns his head with this deliberate slowness, and at one point he even seems to show a tiny shift in expression. There’s no dramatic Hollywood alien behavior, just this quiet, almost tired-looking being answering questions.
Who Was Ivan, the Uploader?
The person who first posted the video went by the name “Ivan” (sometimes written as Ivan0135 or similar). He claimed to be a Russian man living in Spain who had received the footage from a friend connected to old Soviet intelligence circles. According to Ivan, the material had been sitting in secret archives for years and he was slowly leaking small pieces of it.
He was pretty active in the comments for a while, answering questions and promising more videos from the same collection. His YouTube channel is still live and has 3 other videos on it that are all equally as compelling as the Skiny Bob one. Then, after a few months, he basically disappeared from the internet. No more uploads, no more comments. Some people think he got scared or warned off. Others suspect the whole “Ivan” persona was just part of the story. Years later someone claiming to be Iven popped up again in an email reply to a researcher but many don't believe it was the "real" Ivan, tho I don't know how they verified it wasn't or was to be honest.
What we do know is that he never tried to monetize the video, never asked for donations, and never came back with big dramatic claims. He just dropped the footage and vanished.
Why This One Feels Different
Most alien videos are either blurry blobs or obvious rubber-mask nonsense. Skinny Bob is something else. The eye reflections catch the light properly, the skin moves naturally when he turns his head, and the breathing motion is subtle but visible. People have done frame-by-frame breakdowns for years and still can’t find any obvious CGI artifacts that would have been easy to spot back in 2011.
To be fair there has been a lot of debate on another of Ivan's videos featuring a UFO flying at what appears to be low level. There is also a fantastic subreddit called r/SkinnyBob/ which I really enjoy reading, check it out if you have the time. It's packed with thoughts and theories, many of them remarkably detailed and thoughtful. Good people.
The Big Debate
The arguments go back and forth endlessly. Some folks say it’s the best CGI ever made at the time. Others argue that if someone had the budget and skill to pull this off, why leak it anonymously instead of making a fortune in Hollywood?
“If this is fake… it’s one of the best fakes ever made.”
And honestly, a surprising number of video experts and even some skeptics have said pretty much the same thing.

So… Real or Hoax?
After more than a decade, we’re still no closer to a definitive answer. Some people are convinced it’s genuine leaked footage. Others think it’s an incredibly well-done hoax. What almost everyone agrees on is that it’s one of the creepiest and most convincing pieces of alleged alien video that’s ever circulated.
What Do You Think?
Be honest, when you watch the Skinny Bob footage, what’s your gut reaction? Does it feel real to you, or do you think it’s a very clever fake? If it is genuine, what do you make of how calm and almost familiar he seems? I'll throw my hat in the ring and say I think the Skinny Bob footage is 100% real. There, I said it haha. I’d really like to hear what you think.
