On June 21, 1976, a 23-year-old Mexican student pilot named Rafael Pacheco Perez climbed into a little training plane for what should have been a simple solo flight near Mexico City. What happened next still sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie.
His plane vanished from radar for over an hour. When it finally reappeared, it was hundreds of miles away over Acapulco, a trip that should have taken three hours and way more fuel than he was carrying. Then, while still in the air, an alien entity took control and started speaking through him over the radio to air traffic control, using Rafael like a living microphone.
The Flight That Should Have Been Routine
Rafael was a regular guy training at the Escuela de Aviación México. That day he was flying a small avioneta (XB-ZOX) on his first real solo practice flight. Nothing fancy, just take-offs and landings in the local area. He took off, checked in with the tower, and everything seemed completely normal. But then...
Then He Simply Disappeared
Controllers suddenly lost radar contact. They tried calling him on the radio but got nothing. For a full hour the plane was gone. No distress signal, no crash report, just silence. Everyone on the ground was starting to worry the worst had happened.
“He is speaking because he is ordered to do so… This is his voice, he is speaking but not of his own free will. We are using him as if he were a microphone.”
That’s the voice that finally crackled through the radio when contact was re-established. It was calm, clear, and nothing like Rafael’s normal way of talking.
The Voice on the Radio
Air traffic controllers were stunned. The entity explained they were beings from this same universe, physically identical to humans, and that they had been watching us for a long time. The Air Traffic Controller asked the enitity: “If you’re so perfect, how come you speak Spanish?” And the entity answered they could understand any language in a matter of seconds.
“You are not alone in the universe… Our planet is many light-years away, but before it becomes confusing, we are physically the same as you. All races in the universe are physically the same.”
They went on to warn about the path humanity was heading down, destruction, greed, environmental damage, and said we still had time to change if we chose to. The Air Traffic Controller, who spoke fluent German and English, then asked him many questions in German, and again the entiry answered them in German as well, then the ATC talked to the entity in English, and the entity once again understood everything.
What makes this even more wild, as if it wasn't already, is that Rafael himself only speaks Spanish...
The Impossible Journey
While all this was happening, the little training plane somehow covered a distance that should have been impossible. It reappeared circling over Acapulco, roughly three hours away by normal flight. When it finally landed, the fuel tanks were nearly empty, yet the plane had flown far beyond its range.
Rafael himself had almost no memory of the event. He was exhausted, confused, after the event and said he felt like someone else had been inside him, but couldn't explain it.
Landing and the Aftermath
When he touched down in Acapulco, officials were waiting him. Rafael was taken for medical checks, but doctors found absolutely nothing physically wrong with him. Rafael never tried to make money or seek fame from his story. He went back to a quiet life, but always stood by what happened to him that day in 1978.

So What Really Happened Up There?
Was this a genuine extraterrestrial intelligence using a human pilot as a microphone to send a message to the world? Or could it have been some kind of extreme stress-induced episode, a hoax, or something we still don’t understand? The radar data, the fuel situation, the multilingual responses, and those leaked recordings make it one of the most intriguing pilot encounters on record.
