Sometime in 2002, I couldn't find an exact date for the event, in the rugged mountains of Kandahar, Afghanistan, a U.S. Special Forces team allegedly ran into something that sounded like it came straight out of an ancient legend. According to the story, they encountered a massive red-haired giant, easily 12 to 15 feet tall, who attacked them without hesitation. The firefight that followed was intense, and what happened afterward has fueled one of the most persistent military legends of the modern era.
The tale has been told and retold on podcasts, YouTube channels, and conspiracy forums for years. Some people believe it’s a genuine account of soldiers facing something ancient and otherworldly. Others see it as a modern war story that grew taller with every telling. Either way, it refuses to die.
The Origins of the Story
The Kandahar Giant story first started circulating several years after the supposed event. It usually comes from an anonymous former special forces soldier who shared his experience on late-night radio shows and internet forums. He described how his team was sent on a search-and-rescue mission after another patrol went missing in a remote, mountainous area near Kandahar.
The Encounter in the Valley
As the team moved carefully through the narrow valley, they spotted something massive standing near the cave. The soldier described it as a humanoid figure at least 12 to 15 feet tall, with long red hair, pale skin, and an aggressive posture. It wasn’t wearing clothes in the modern sense, but appeared to be draped in rough animal hides or something similar.

Before the team could react, the giant charged at them. In the chaos that followed, one soldier was reportedly picked up and slammed against the rocks, killing him instantly. The rest of the unit opened fire.

The Aftermath and Recovery

The soldier claimed they loaded the enormous body onto the aircraft and it was flown out, never to be seen again by the men on the ground. The story stayed buried for years until the soldier decided to speak out anonymously. The latest bit of information that has come out is that when they were loading the body of the Giant on to the plane the crate with the Giant laying on it was weighed and it was 1200lbs. The crate is standard of being around 100lbs in weight so the Giant was around 1100lbs, which is means he'd easily appear under "Built-Like-A-Brick-Sh*thouse in the dictionary.
Connections to the Nephilim
One of the reasons the story gained so much traction is its connection to ancient legends of giants. Many people link it to the Biblical Nephilim mentioned in Genesis 6, the offspring of fallen angels and human women who were said to be giants roaming the earth in ancient times. Some researchers and storytellers suggest the Kandahar Giant could be a surviving member of these beings, or at least evidence that the old stories might have some basis in reality.
