Quick Info
On the morning of May 10, 1978, 71-year-old Polish farmer Jan Wolski was driving his horse-drawn cart through the woods near Emilcin when two small green-skinned humanoids jumped aboard. They led him to a hovering rectangular craft where he was taken inside and examined before being returned unharmed. The case includes physical traces, multiple witnesses, and remains Poland’s most famous and credible abduction story.
In the middle of communist Poland, a simple farmer with no interest in UFOs gave a calm, consistent account that was investigated by ufologists and even featured on national television.
Life in Rural Communist Poland
Emilcin was a tiny, quiet village in eastern Poland. Life moved slowly. Jan was born in 1907, was a typical hardworking farmer who had seen his share of hardship through wars and political changes. By 1978 he was 71, still tending his land and driving his old horse-drawn cart every day. People knew him as honest and straightforward. No one expected him to become the center of one of Europe’s most talked-about UFO cases.
The Morning Cart Ride
It was a normal spring morning on May 10, 1978. Jan had left home early with his horse and cart. As he drove through a wooded path, he noticed two small figures walking ahead. When he got closer they simply jumped onto the back of his moving cart without asking. They sat down and began speaking in a thin, strange language he had never heard before.
“They were talking in thin voices, unknown to me. I didn’t understand any of it.”
— Jan Wolski
At first he thought they might be foreigners because of their unusual appearance, but something felt very different.
Meeting the Strange Beings
The two beings were about 1.5 meters tall with greenish skin, large slanted eyes, prominent cheekbones, and tight black one-piece suits with hoods and boots that had buckles. They had webbed hands and moved with a calm, almost mechanical grace. They gestured for Jan to keep driving and guided him toward a clearing.
“Their faces were green. Their eyes were slanted and very big. They wore black suits that looked like they were made from one piece.”
— Jan Wolski
Jan felt no real fear, only curiosity and a strange sense of calm thoughout the entire event. Which in and of itself is weird, but nice.
The Hovering Craft
In the clearing stood a large white rectangular craft, about the size of a bus, hovering roughly five meters above the ground. It had four black drill-like legs underneath that made a low humming sound. A platform like an elevator lowered to the ground. The beings gestured for Jan to step on.
Aboard the White Ship
Inside the craft everything was white and clean. There were benches along the walls and two more beings waiting. They motioned for Jan to remove some of his clothes. He complied. They then used a device that looked like a large comb or scanner, running it slowly over his body from head to toe.
“They examined me with something that looked like a comb. They ran it all over me without touching.”
— Jan Wolski
There were also several rooks or birds in small cages that seemed strangely still, as if frozen or immobilized.
The Examination and Release
The beings never harmed him. They offered him some food, which he politely refused. After about twenty minutes they gestured that he could leave. Jan stepped back onto the platform, returned to his cart, and watched as the craft rose silently and flew away.
Physical Traces Left Behind
When his family and neighbors went to the clearing later that morning they found clear evidence: flattened grass in a rectangular pattern, unusual small rectangular footprints in the soft soil, and broken branches. The traces were photographed and studied by investigators.
The Investigation
Polish ufologist Zdzisław Blania arrived quickly on the scene and interviewed Jan extensively. A 1978 Polish television documentary captured Jan telling his story in detail. Psychologists and sociologists from the University of Łódź examined him and found Jan to be entirely credible, honest, and with no signs of mental illness or fabrication. He passed every test of consistency and never sought money or fame.

Why This Case Remains Important
The Emilcin case stands out because of the witness’s age, honesty, and complete lack of motive to fabricate such a wild tale. Jan was a normal everyday dude, a simple farmer in communist Poland with absolutely no interest in UFOs or publicity.
The physical traces, multiple corroborating details, and professional psychological evaluation make it one of the strongest European abduction cases on record. Even today, a monument marks the exact spot in Emilcin, and the story continues to fascinate people around the world.

What Do You Think?
After reading Jan Wolski’s story, and watching the video above, what’s your reaction? Do you think this 71-year-old farmer really met beings from another world, or could there be another explanation? Why do you think the beings chose him? This is one of Poland’s most credible and detailed abduction stories and I've absolutely no reason to think Jan was making it up, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.
